Our Story
There’s something about the life here in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Maybe it’s the water. We’re on a beautiful peninsula flanked by the shimmering waters of the Rappahannock River, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay. Or maybe it’s the people – kind and generous, with a tenacious spirit that comes from living on the cusp of land and water.
Whatever it is, people fall in love with the region and want to stay here, or at least return as often as they can. We chose to stay.
Dorothy and Fred Burke, Sr. opened the doors to Burkes Fine Jewelers in 1969. From there, they built a flourishing business on simple values: good old-fashioned service, superior craftsmanship, and lasting friendships.
Eighteen years later, a second generation of Burkes Jewelers began when we met on a blind date and fell in love. We didn’t just fall in love with each other: we fell in love with the area, the people, and the jewelry business. Soon after, we married and took over the business and began a family tradition.
Our son, Justin, and his wife, Melissa, returned home to start their family and have joined the business. With their creative skills and modern technique, we envision more wonderful creations and unique designs to come.
